How to choose a garage door company in Killeen, TX: a checklist
Pick a company you can check. It should have a real street address, a price range on the phone, a firm price before work, payment after the work and a written invoice. Learning how to choose a garage door company in Killeen starts with five checks, below. Call (254) 232-8788 and ask us the same questions.
We are a call and dispatch service. You call us, and we send a technician from our partner shop. We say so up front because you should ask every company this question, and we want you to hear our answer first. You can see the towns we cover before you call.
What are the five checks before I hire anyone?
Run these checks before you agree to any price.
- A real address. Find it on a map. A phone number alone is not a business.
- A price range on the phone and a firm price on site. Be careful with one exact low number quoted without any questions.
- Payment after the work. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) lists a demand for full payment up front as a scam sign.
- A written quote and invoice. It should list parts, labor and fees.
- Answers to plain questions. Who is coming, what company do they work for, and what happens if the price changes?
Not sure what a fair price looks like? The repair cost guide has dated ranges and a quote-reading table.
Is the company a local garage door shop or a call center?
Many are call centers or dispatchers that send work to another shop. That is not illegal, but they should say so. Choosing a garage door company in Killeen now means asking this directly, because some operators hide it.
Regulators have noticed. In May 2026 the U.S. Department of Justice and the Illinois attorney general sued a company they say ran more than 15,000 fake local business profiles for home repair trades, with calls routed to call centers and contractors sent afterward. Those are allegations, not court findings. (Source: Olshan Frome Wolosky advertising law blog, 21 May 2026) In June 2026 a news report in Rochester, New York described fake garage door sites that used local-looking area codes and charged a $1,400 deposit on a $400 job. Our answer: we are a dispatch service with a real address at 207 E Avenue C, Killeen, TX 76541. You call us, and we send a technician from our partner shop. We give a price range first and a firm price on site, and nothing is due before the work is done. Here is how a visit works.
How can I check what a company tells me?
Look up the address on a map. Search the company name with the word reviews. Call the number and ask who will come to your door. If the answer changes from one call to the next, move on.
Does a garage door company need a license in Texas?
Not a state license for garage door work itself, as far as our research found. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) says a company that only installs garage door openers needs no DPS license, unless the opener connects to an alarm or logs who comes and goes. (Source: Texas DPS, gate operators and garage door openers page, updated 1 Sep 2019) We found no separate state license for garage door repair.
So when a company says it is “licensed,” ask what the license is, who issued it and what its number is, then look it up. A claim without a name and number checks nothing.
What does red-flag pricing look like?
Here are the warning signs the BBB lists: a very low service fee that grows once the technician arrives, pressure to buy repairs at once, a demand for full payment first, and no real address. (Source: BBB scam alert, published 6 Oct 2023) For comparison, Angi puts a normal national service call at $50 to $75. (Source: Angi, garage door repair cost page, updated 3 Aug 2026)
A low price is not a lie by itself. The question is whether the price stays the same once the technician is on site.
What should I ask on the first phone call?
Ask any company, including us:
- Where is your shop or office, and what is the street address?
- Are you the company that will do the work, or do you send a partner?
- What is the price range, and is the final price firm once on site?
- Is there a service call fee, and does it come off the final bill?
- When do I pay?
- Will I get a written invoice?
- If you find a second problem, do I hear the price before you start?
Should I get more than one quote?
Yes, when the door is not an emergency. Ask each company for the same things: the part that failed, the labor, the service call fee and the total. Then compare line by line, not by the bottom number. If one quote is far lower, ask what it leaves out. If the door is stuck open or a car is trapped, a second quote may cost you a night, so use the five checks and decide. For a true emergency, see when to call at night.
What if the price changes when the technician arrives?
You can say no. Ask what, if anything, you owe for the visit before the technician starts, and ask for the new price in writing. A company that changes the price without a new reason is a warning sign. Our rule: you hear any new price before that work starts.

How do reviews help me choose?
Read the detailed ones. A useful review names the problem, the timing and what the company did. Be wary of many short five-star reviews posted in a burst. The DOJ case above alleges fabricated reviews.
