Garage door remote not working in Killeen, TX: what to try first
If your garage door remote is not working but the wall button is, the fault is usually the remote, its battery or the pairing, not the opener. Try the safe checks below, then call (254) 232-8788. We arrange help when a garage door remote stopped working, with a price range on the phone.
We are a call and dispatch service. You call us, and we send a technician from our partner shop. These checks keep you on the floor. Do not climb a ladder or touch a spring to fix a remote.
Does the wall button work when the remote does not?
Try the wall button first. It splits the problem in two.
- Wall button works, remote does not: the remote, its battery or its pairing is the problem.
- Neither works: look at power, the opener or the door itself.
- Opener hums or clicks and the door will not move: stop pressing buttons. That is not a remote problem. See why a door will not open.
How do I fix a garage door remote that is not working?
Run these checks in order. Each one is safe from the floor.
- Replace the remote battery. Check the plus and minus sides.
- Stand closer to the door and in line with it. Try again.
- Check that the opener is plugged in and the breaker is on.
- Look at the wall control. Some have a lock button that turns the remotes off, so check your manual.
- Check the bulbs in the opener. See the next question.
- Reprogram the remote. See “How do I reprogram a garage door remote?” below.
If all six fail, call. The cause may be a failed receiver or circuit board in the opener.
Can LED light bulbs stop my garage door remote from working?
Yes, some can. Chamberlain says to avoid low-quality LED bulbs because they can interfere with remote controls, and it suggests a CFL bulb or its own tested LED bulb if problems start after a bulb swap. (Source: Chamberlain Group support, light bulb article, checked 3 Oct 2026) That is one brand’s guidance. We have not checked other brands. If your remote went weak after you changed the opener bulb, change the bulb back and test.
Why does my remote only work when I stand next to the door?
A weak battery and interference are the usual suspects. A bad bulb in the opener can cut range. Try a fresh battery first, then the bulb check above. If range is still short, the opener’s receiver may be failing. That is a technician’s call.

Why is my garage door keypad not working?
Start with the keypad battery. Then test the remote and the wall button. If the remote and wall button work and only the keypad fails, the keypad needs a new battery or a reset to the opener. Follow your manual for that. If nothing works, treat it as an opener or power problem.
How do I reprogram a garage door remote?
The steps differ by brand and model, so use your manual. In general, Chamberlain describes it this way: press the Learn button on the opener or wall control, then press and hold the remote button until the lights flash or you hear two clicks. (Source: Chamberlain Group support, programming article, checked 3 Oct 2026) The door may move during programming, so clear the area.
The Learn button is often on the motor, high above the car. If you need a ladder to reach it, call us instead. A fall hurts more than a remote costs.
I lost a remote or sold a car. How do I stop the old remote opening my door?
Ask the technician to erase old remotes from the opener’s memory and program the ones you still have. The steps depend on the brand, so we do not give them here.
When is the remote not the problem?
Sometimes the remote is fine and the door is not.
- A hum or click with no movement points to a spring, a gear or a jam, not the remote.
- A door that closes and then reverses points to the sensors. See why a door will not close.
- A door that opens by itself needs a technician. Unplug the opener and call.
- An opener with no lights and no sound has a power fault.
The garage door problems guide shows the other symptoms. If your opener is old and failing more than once, our opener repair page explains repair or replace.
Should I replace the remote or the opener?
Replace the remote when the opener works with the wall button. Many owners replace openers at 10 to 20 years, and an opener at that age with a dead receiver is often worth replacing instead of patching. A technician can tell you which, and what each option costs.
How much does it cost to fix a garage door remote or keypad?
We do not have a Killeen fee for this yet, so here are published national ranges. They are not Killeen quotes.

What should I tell you when I call?
Tell us the opener brand from the label on the motor, the remote model, and whether the wall button works. Say what you tried and when it stopped. A photo of the label from the floor helps.
